My Students
My twenty-five kindergarten students come from an urban neighborhood in a high poverty area. They attend a K-8 public school. Despite certain disadvantages they come to school every day excited and ready to learn. They deserve time to be kids and play outside at recess. This may be the only time students get to play outside daily.
For children playtime can be a venue to create an understanding of the world and how people interact.
My students need equipment to use during recess. This will also help them work on social skills such as working together and sharing.
My Project
My students work hard all day. They look forward to going outside for recess. It is proven that regular physical activity can increase concentration and focus, improve classroom attendance and behavior, and boost academic performance. That is why our recess time is a critical part of our day. We have a small concrete area where students are allowed to play during recess. Once we are out there they are constantly saying they are bored. We don't have anything for students to play with. When I asked my students what would make recess more fun, they requested playground equipment, such as the Big Red Megabag, footballs, basketballs, soccerballs, Platform Stilts, and jump ropes (which will also build coordination and motor skills).
The equipment will help cut down on boredom and behavior issues during recess periods because they will have something to do.
This donation will assist students in getting active and moving. This may be the only chance they have all day to be active and these materials will help my students get their recommended sixty minutes of activity a day.
Let's get these kids outside, get some fresh air, move and have fun while they are doing it.
