Getting A Great Start With Art

My Students

My students love art and we do a lot of projects throughout the year. We make canvas bags, soap, drawings and much more. Unfortunately our supplies are dwindling and to continue creating these wonderful art projects next year, I need to replenish the materials in my art cabinet.

I teach 25 enthusiastic students in a small school in rural Northern California.

Our class is large, but I have very eager students who love to learn. With such motivated students, it is so much fun to add technology and other fun programs to supplement our curriculum. They appreciate having new and innovative methods to help them learn.

My Project

My students need a variety of art supplies from paper, a book binder, canvas, buttons and glue to create year-long art, reading and science projects. Materials were requested to create bird feeders. The bird feeders will be used in our school school garden, and with the book binder and construction paper, my students will make journals. My students will then use the feeders and journals to record observations made in the garden, noting with written entries and illustrations the different activity at the feeders during the different seasons. The construction paper will be used to replicate different art techniques of famous artists like Monet, Picasso, and Van Gogh. The projects will be bound with the book binder so students will have a permanent keepsake of their projects. Every year at Open House our school does an art show. Our contribution will be the collection of projects that my students have created in their bound books. The other supplies like the trivet trays, glue, buttons, and Mod Podge will be used to create art projects that focus on using different artistic mediums. The trivet trays will be used as a culminating activity after a year long study of mosaics. Students will create different mosaics with magnets and paper outlines during center time. At the end of the unit, they will make a trivet tray out of cermaic tiles. The glue, buttons and Mod Podge will be used to create collages to build vocabulary. They will also use these materials to create headbands for our class play and to create animal habitats to tie in our two units on animals and homes. The marbeling kits will be used to make paper with different colors and designs. The marbled paper will then be used to create new projects like book marks, journals, and a final project replicating the work of Eric Carle.

The materials requested will provide my classroom with a year's worth of art supplies.

Having all of these resources will allow my students to do a variety of activities instead of me picking and choosing a few because of limited resources.
