This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember having your favorite books read to you?
I teach 1st grade at a Title 1 school, where a majority of my students are English Language learners and receive either free or reduced lunch.
With most of their parents working hard all day, my students have very few opportunities to have books read to them.
My Project
This listening center will give my students a chance to have a variety of books read aloud to them. It will also provide them a chance to hear the stories read in a natural, fluent voice which will improve their reading skills. Recently, our school received an iTouch for each classroom. By having a listening center that has a USB port, I will be able to utilize and share this new technology with six children at a time.
With limited resources in their homes, your donation will allow my students to have the opportunity to improve their reading skills and auditory processing while gaining a love of literature.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
