Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students I teach come from a variety of different economic backgrounds; with 100% of students receiving free lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in San Diego. Students speak a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, and Burmese.
Our school is home to students that strive to be confident, respectful, responsible, and healthy thinkers.
I am kindly asking for your support in helping us as we transition to distant learning. We need cursive materials to help student succeed while learning from home.
My Project
Students entering 3rd grade are always excited to learn cursive. Faced with the new challenges of distant learning, this once engaging activity has been lost. Besides being fun and engaging, cursive is also important for many other reasons. According to researchers "cursive writing helps train the brain to integrate visual (and) tactile information, and fine motor dexterity." The regions of the brain that are activated during reading were "activated during hand writing, but not during typing."
Please help me in provided much needed home learning materials that will allow students to turn off their computers and once again learn and practice cursive.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
