My students need Stamina Instride Foldable Cycles, Air Stability Wobble Cushions, Gaiam Stay-N-Play Balance Balls, and exercise balls to let them move while they learn.

My Students

My incredible, high-energy, middle school students face daily learning and personal challenges. Most have been identified as learning disabled, ADHD, and many are English Language Learners. Students in my reading support classes are selected because they have changed elementary schools three or more times; read 2-4 grade levels below their assigned grade; and possess attendance, medical, and/or behavior issues that have prevented them from becoming accomplished and motivated learners and readers.

Energy to burn, and a dire need for exercise opportunities perfectly describe my students.

Yet, most of the day they are asked to sit quietly in rows of desks. Many of our students go directly inside when they get off the bus, due to safety reasons. They don't get to play or ride bicycles in their neighborhoods after school My goal is to provide a learning space for students where they can move while they learn.

My Project

Portable cycles, balance balls, and wobble balls will give my students time to exercise and move while they practice fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies. My students often remind me how much they miss having recess time to move around. Instead of sitting quietly in desks, these cool options will give them choices for movement, options for seating and increase their reading stamina.

My middle school students would be thrilled to have a specially outfitted classroom to make reading class fun as they face their 40 Book Reading Challenge with anticipation.

This is such a great opportunity to provide some exercise and build core strength in a teen appealing way.
