My Students

"Mathematics is like love, a simple idea, but it can get complicated." Anonymous. Simple math can be made complicated and challenging for students when asked to explore different ways to solve a problem.

My students come from diverse backgrounds.

The school currently has about 64% receiving free and reduced lunch. Students come from families that are working two jobs and they are at home taking care of themselves or siblings. Even though some of my kids have a tough life at home, they come to school eager to learn. They want to do well and they want to understand the content that is being taught. I want to be able to bring in as many resources for these students because I know many of them don't have the resources at home.

My Project

I have requested dice, decks of cards, and bugs to use in a counting collection project I would like to start in my classroom next year. Counting collections is a great way for students to explore different patterns in numbers, we just need materials to be able to implement the activity. These materials will allow students of all levels to challenge themselves. The storage bins will be used to organize the games and counting collection activities. This will make the activities more accessible to the students during class. The pencil sharper will be used to sharpen pencils in order to record their work.

These materials and bins will engage students in their learning.

They will allow students to challenge themselves and one another when working in groups. They will be able to take the skills they learn from the counting collection activities and apply them to real world application.
