Imagine a classroom, there is a board at the front of the room and a teacher teaching a lesson at the front of the room. Then there are students sitting quietly at a desk taking notes or completing a worksheet. However this is not the most conducive environment for students to learn, and can lead to boredom, and a lack of student thinking.
Movement helps students to learn better.
Help me make my classroom a place where students can move around, work collaboratively, and think deeply. Storage bins will allow students to take their supplies to different places in the room. A storage cabinet will store hands-on manipulatives and games for math and science, such as Play- Doh, BrainFlakes, spinner games, etc. Magnets and Velcro dots will allow me to hang student work, directions, posters and other things so the students can use my entire classroom for learning.
With this increased movement, a doorbell will allow me to quickly get my students’ attention to give more directions or to have a class discussion. While we work together often in my classroom there are times when students need to show what they know and work independently. Dividers will help my students to focus and minimize distractions during tests.
