Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students are brilliantly resilient scholars who come from immigrant, blue-collar working households close to downtown LA. Many of them attend school year-round to catch up on reading and writing skills. These students tirelessly work toward fluency in English while continuing to persevere through the struggles of their community. The culture we are promoting at our school is college readiness through the use of AVID strategies such as physical organization, note taking, and paraphrasing. Students show up every day ready to tackle the days' objectives and build community with one another.
My Project
Wouldn't you hate to sit in your chair all day and have someone talk at you? The clip boards and giant poster post its will help my students document their learning so that others can see it displayed largely around the classroom. They will be able to collaborate and move around the room. The post its will help them document their learning in their independent reading and on their classmates homework.
I want my students to be able to get up and move around in order to activate their own learning and collaborate with their peers.
These supplies will help them on a daily basis! They love using my markers and pens but I don't have enough to go around. They will be able to use these supplies to be more creative and learn to love learning.
