Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kindergarten classroom was added to our low-income school at the last minute due to high enrollment. Fortunately, we are able to have class size down to 24 students, but my "late-add" classroom was void of educational materials when we entered.
The materials we do have are teacher-made and are quickly deteriorating. With letter naming proficiency at 37% at the beginning of the year, we are eager to continue to improve that score.
In order to do that more quickly, we need to have sturdy, engaging, and interactive materials. During guided reading, students are visiting workstations throughout the classroom. I'd like to include paint, letter sponges, and paint brushes in an Art Station so students can create art with words such as their names, sight words, and classroom print. Additionally, we would like to include the interactive Letter Factory DVD and the Word Factory DVD for our non-readers to watch in the Technology Station.
Take a moment to consider how your life would change if you couldn't read. Just think how your support of this project will set us up for early reading success and change our lives forever.
