My Students
My students are excited to come to school and learn! For many of them, this is their first time in a school setting. While they are eager to learn and be at school, sometimes they have difficulty focusing in the classroom because they aren't able to move as much as they would like. Many of them were at home before coming to school and aren't used to having to sit and listen to a lesson. Young students need the opportunity to focus and energize their bodies throughout the day. We like to "get our wiggles out" throughout the day so we can focus on our learning. Since this is the first time many of them have been in school, this can be quite challenging for them.
I feel it is my responsibility to create an environment where all of my students can learn.
Research shows that young students learn through movement. My students would like for me to provide opportunities throughout the day for them to get those wiggles out! I would like to have the resources to provide my students with opportunities for movement throughout the day, so that all my students can be successful!
My Project
My students love to dance and move. Dancing and movement helps them learn, and they are not afraid to get up and move! They dance to the beat of their own drum. We learn so much through movement and song in Kindergarten. When we dance, my kids are getting up and exercising and they don't even know it! They often need to "get those wiggles out" and they ask for it, which also helps them to stay focused when it's time to learn or complete work, because their little bodies have been allowed to move.
My students want and need many opportunities to get up and move throughout the day.
For many of them, this is their first time in a school setting, and the transition is quite difficult. They have a tough time staying seated and focused. My students are always asking if we can sing a song or dance. They love to get their wiggles out through movement and music. They would like to have an iPad for songs because we would have an entire library of songs at our fingertips for a brain break any time. The speaker is portable so we can move our music anywhere. We could even take our music outside! My students love to choose their favorite songs, and they are really excited that they can pick whichever songs they want, anytime they want! The songs on the CDs I requested are educational songs that teach things such as colors, sounds, letters, and more. When my students get up to move during these brain breaks, not only are they getting their bodies moving, they will be learning new things! They love learning through music because it helps them learn new content more easily, and they don't even realize they are doing it!
