My students need 4 balance ball chairs and 4 Sit 'N Gym sets to allow them to move appropriately during classroom instruction and to improve on task behaviors.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Newsom's classroom raised $880

My Students
The chairs in my classroom are old, hard, and plastic! A majority of my students are learning how to cope with disabilities in a middle school setting. Those with sensory needs have the urge to move which is dangerous in those hard, plastic chairs and it is distracting to themselves and to others.
My Montana students are all so unique in their own way.
They attend a Title 1 school that serves mostly families of low income. All of my students are part of the special education program and have various disabilities ranging from learning disabilities to autism. Whatever their disability may be, they are always willing and open to trying new things to better their learning in the classroom setting. My students strive to be the best they can be even in the most difficult situations. They never fail to surprise me as they surpass some of the most difficult challenges.
My Project
I am requesting 4 balance ball chairs and 4 Sit 'N Gym sets to allow them to move appropriately during classroom instruction and to improve on task behaviors. I currently have three ball chairs in my classroom and would love to have more of them. This is why! When used correctly by students with sensory needs, the balls allow students to move in an appropriate way during instruction. The movement allows students to burn off excess energy while sitting! This increases attentiveness and allows students to take in and retain as much knowledge as possible. Furthermore, the ball chairs increase core strength and improves posture and balance! Imagine a classroom full of ball chairs!
This project is important because students deserve the right to be educated in a learning environment that is suitable for them.
Students with disabilities benefit from accommodations and modifications. The ball chairs are a great alternative to those hard, plastic chairs we all remember. They can be used in any classroom setting and would benefit any student. The more attentive the student, the more they will learn.
