Get the Wiggles Out: Classroom Seating to Maximize Learning
My students need the Hokki stools in order to have comfortable, flexible seating arrangements that will result in a more productive learning during small group time.
When I first met the students in the dual language program, I think that it is fair to say that my mind was blown. Never in my previous experiences had I worked in a school where ALL students were given the opportunity to Spanish and English, which meant that I had African American, Latino and White students all engaging together during the lesson in beautiful Spanish. What a gift for our students! Their parents made the decision to give them the gift of biliteracy and the opportunity to actively engage in an increasingly globalized world!
Eighty-two percent of our students receive free or reduced lunch, and many of their parents have limited schooling themselves, yet their parents have taken the leap of providing their children with an exceptional educational opportunity.
I am proud to work with a community that finds value in bilingualism and biliteracy.
My Project
Donating toward 6 Hokki stools will allow my students to have flexible seating that helps them get their wiggles out during the day. Hooki stools are designed for active sitting and have been shown to help with core posture, increase concentration, and give students a safe way to move while sitting. I am requesting 6 stools because students will work in small groups of no more than six each day during math and reading center time.
Many of my kindergarten students have never attended school before and the stools will allow them to work and get out their wiggles at the same time.
Students will be able to work, move and think all the same time without interfering with other students' learning.
The stools also allow me to maximize the space in my classroom. The stools fit neatly under tables and there are no legs for other students to walk around (or trip on!).
The stools will move us toward to my goal of having a student-centered classroom.
