My Project
I am the librarian for two elementary schools, both filled with creative, fun kids who like to read. For some of my students, their weekly trip to the school library is the only time they're able to choose books for pleasure reading. I love when books find champions, and word-of-mouth leads to long holds lists.
After sharing this year’s Geisel winners with kindergartners, I realized that we do not have copies of many of the winners from previous years… and those that we do have are very well-loved and constantly checked out.
The award, named after Dr. Seuss (his real name was Theodore Geisel), goes to books that are just right for beginning readers.
I would love to meet my readers’ demand for high-quality, funny, easy-to-read books with more copies of Geisel winners such as Up, Tall, and High and We Are in a Book!
Heavy on graphics, they make emerging readers feel confident in their abilities to decode and comprehend. And since many are divided into very short chapters, the students have a sense of accomplishment every time they finish one.
