Help me give my students the tools to develop and strengthen critical skills that will be useful throughout their entire life; fine motor, literacy, and social skills!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in the PAL program (Preschool for All Learners). All of my students have different interests, personalities, and ABILITIES. My classroom offers a lot of diversity; 9 boys and 1 girl. Eight of my students have autism, 1 student has an intellectual disability (down syndrome), one- my only girl has an orthopedic impairment (cerebral palsy). Although, they may all be different and face different challenges, they are all motivated and excited to learn in their own special way.
All of my students learn differently.
While one thrives with music, the other thrives through manipulatives. While some enjoy learning in groups with their friends, others prefer to learn independently. What all of my students have in common is, they all learn through play. They all learn best doing what they enjoy most.
My students and their families all reside in a low-income community. The current situation we are all currently facing has become very difficult for my families. As I met with my families last semester, I saw the importance of our daily zoom sessions and what it meant to them. To my families, their children’s education is a priority despite the challenges.
My Project
My students will benefit with these materials in different areas. All materials can support different skills all during one activity. The letters, will be used for letter recognition, color recognition, fine motor development, literacy development, sensory development and more. The tongs will be used to support activities while strengthening their fine motor skills. The use of the dot pens will also support literacy skills, writing skills, fine and gross motor development. It is important for my students and I to have the same materials and all for an equal and equitable opportunity
Nearly all students from low‑income households
