Get Ready to Rumble...with Battle-Worthy Books

Help me give my students classroom access to the 15 selected Sunshine State readers to prepare for our school Battle of the Books competition.

My Students

Do you remember getting excited about it FINALLY being your turn to go to the library to check out new books? Well, my students are that way, except with so many kids wanting to read the same books, they often come back empty-handed because there are no copies of the books they want.

Many can be seen trying to sneak in reading during teacher PE.

Third through fifth graders at my school participate in a special reading competition that tests their recall of details and authors' names from 15 selected Sunshine State Readers. With 300+ students vying to check out these books, competition to just get the books in their hands to read is a challenge.

My Project

I have been fortunate in the past to receive copies of the Battle-Worthy Books for my class through generous donors on DonorsChoose.org. My students were very grateful that they had copies of the books in their room to check out and didn't have to hope that the library had a copy to check out. There have actually been wait lists in my room for some of the books. I was even excited to see some of my reluctant readers venture over to check out a few books throughout the year. The books help the students improve their comprehension and meet their quarterly reading goals.

These new batch of books are so awesome (I can't put them down myself) that I want my students to have the opportunity to read quality literature!

Receiving these books will not only make a difference with my students but future classes that I have and other teachers on my team. I will add the books to my regular library and give the duplicates to students to take home and newer teachers on my team who are still building up their classroom libraries.
