Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year I have the wonderful opportunity to meet a group of 25 students who come from Spanish-speaking households. This cohort of students has grown up in our school together from the start of the school's dual-language program, and I have the luxury and the challenge as their teacher to continue their learning opportunities and to allow them to prosper in this upcoming school year.
The students in my class are challenging, exciting, motivated, and love to push the edges.
They are funny and love challenges. They need high expectations so that they can gain more confidence in themselves and what they want to do. They need to believe they are college-bound.
Each child in my classroom absolutely loves learning, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly. We incorporate a variety of learning strategies, group work, and alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! They are truly an incredible group, and I am so lucky and thankful to have a new group of learners that are excited and ready to learn each year!
My Project
My students enjoy hands-on learning and anything that is fun. This project is to have board games in the classroom. We need board games for rainy days, lunchtime recess, or free time in class. I need more board and card games that will engage the kids and have enough for my whole class to pick different games to play in class. I want my students to learn about board or card games rather than be on the computer all the time.
Help me give my students Checkers, Connect 4, Mouse Trap, Sorry, Mancala, Spot It, Monopoly Jr., and Knex, to better increase fluency and life skills to work together.
Students will be able to learn through being interactive and through friendly competitiveness. Obtaining games will change my students' learning experiences. While they are playing games, they won't realize they are learning. They believe that playing games are just having fun! These games are designed to work with small groups of students to help isolate learning. Group learning can be extremely effective for students.
I remember playing games as a child and how much fun it was. I want to be able to bring that joy to my students. Laughs that they will remember and carry on with them forever is what I hope these games will do.
