My students need ten basketballs, twelve bean bags, and six jump ropes for physical education activities.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Lum's classroom raised $290

My Students
Part of fifth grade physical education curriculum is to run a mile, perform push-ups and sit-ups. However, they would like to do more than just run during their PE. I would love to teach them how to dribble, shoot, and play an actual game of basketball. Jump ropes and bean bags will help too!
My students live in a low-to-middle-income suburb in California.
The majority of the students are in the free lunch program and many are bilingual. Beyond the statistics, they are boys and girls whose families have lived in the area for generations. The students know all the teachers, and the teachers definitely know all their little faces. Therefore, school plays a vital part in the community and is like a second home to many. Despite the modest environment, our school has distinguished itself with numerous awards. Of this we are very proud, but we know our school is what it is because of the dedicated families and children who attend. I can honestly say, I am proud of my school and so are my students. That's why it is so important to give the students as many opportunities as we can.
My Project
Students will learn how to dribble, shoot, and how to play as a team. They will enjoy physical activity and be able to transfer these skills to the playground. Students will use the jump ropes to help build coordination and balance. Bean bags will offer a soft and safe object to toss to one while playing team building games.
This project will encourage students to stay active and have a positive attitude about exercising.
This will also enable students to constantly be moving if there are ten basketballs instead of the usual one basketball per classroom. Being active doesn't have to be boring!
