Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a special education teacher in an inclusion classroom. This will be my second year working with my students, first in 4th grade and now in fifth. I am looking forward to spending another year with them. They are very bright and hardworking children. They are very thoughtful and polite and love to volunteer to help each other and their teachers. They made so much progress last year and I cannot wait to see how much they grow this year. I know that they are capable of doing great things.
My Project
We are currently studying Home of the Brave in our Literacy Unit. A lot of the work has to do with reading this book and analyzing the story elements, developing theories and analyzing theme. The students do not have their own copy so it is impossible for them to look at the text on their own. This takes away from their engagement and their independence. Every one knows that holding a book in your hands makes all the difference. If they had their own copy they could reread the book on their own and add post its to mark the parts that they find important.
