My Project
This summer, I will be creating a brave space to support my incarcerated youth's social and emotional development, and I need your help. Kwame Alexander's Memoir will be the portal through which we will access their point of view about their social-emotional and character development. Kwame's poems, letters, recipes, and remembrances will be the vehicle that will teach them that it is ok to take up space even when they don't feel safe.
My students will spend each session reading, writing, discussing, and listening with their hearts.
They will gain the tools needed to do their mirror work, moving from their pain points to positions of possibility. This book will become the mentor text that will be used for them to craft the beginning pages of their own summer stories, and I am excited to Get L.I.T. with them for summer 2023!
