This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students love to learn about music! Whether it is playing a drum or listening to me read "Beethoven Lives Upstairs," my students listen and participate, eager to learn more.
My students attend a K-8 public school in a high poverty, urban community in New Jersey.
They LOVE music and look forward to coming to class each week. Our school cares about the arts and although we don't have a budget for new music materials, our administration is always supportive with their actions and words.
My Project
If my students receive these books, they will learn about composers and musicians from around the world. From "The Bear and the Piano," a story about following your dreams, to "Silent Music: A Story of Baghdad," a story about a boy named Ali who copes with living in a war torn country by creating music, these tales will expose my students to new ideas and cultures.
Donations to this project will improve my classroom because they go directly to exposing my students to new ideas.
They will learn about different cultures and types of music while listening to stories and hearing recordings on CDs. It will enrich their knowledge of music as well as support their literacy.
