I teach two groups of fourth grade students. Our district is in a low income, rural, economically depressed area of Pennsylvania. My students may be economically disadvantaged, but they deserve the same learning experiences as all other students across the United States.
Sixty-two percent of my students receive both free breakfast and lunch, as well as backpack food every weekend.
Our school runs this free food program because our students wouldn't have enough food to eat throughout the weekend break away from school if we didn't step in and supply it. Being a child today is not an easy task. Despite these many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they will be successful students.
My Project
New and improved flexible seating stools will make a difference in my students’ learning by allowing the physical environment of my classroom to be comfortable for all students of all shapes and all sizes. The basic chair-to-desk seating environment in my classroom can get very repetitive and routine. My students like to have physical movement in their learning. They also like to be comfortable while writing, reading, and even working out math problems. With the help of these flexible seating Kore Adjustable Wobble Chairs, my students can enjoy learning in a variety of ways. Currently my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting under tables with clip boards, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clip board. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them.
