My students need playground equipment - such as jump ropes, balls, and hula hoops - to encourage physical fitness and team building skills.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
More children are overweight and obese than ever before. That is because they don't engage in routine physical fitness or sports. I want to encourage my students to get fit by exercising regularly, playing team sports, and learning how to be active.
I teach a rambunctious group of predominantly Latino and African-American fourth graders.
My students live in a high crime, low-income inner city. Unfortunately, the neighborhood isn't safe enough for them to play in and very few structured sports are offered at local parks. Therefore, the only time many students engage in physical activities is during recess. Due to budget cuts, play equipment is not available at my school. Some students already suffer from obesity, juvenile diabetes, and asthma. Many of them are eager to participate in active sports and desire to learn about physical fitness. Even without equipment, teachers go that extra mile to exercise with their students, jog around campus, and show them how to be active without equipment. However, it is almost impossible to teach and model healthy living habits and physical activity without playground equipment.
My Project
Playground and sports equipment for my students will pave the way to a healthier lifestyle. The materials will not only promote team building, but also develop gross motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Students will be encouraged to exercise regularly. With the equipment, students will be able to utilize their recess time more constructively. Even further, I will be able to teach students the fundamentals of team sports, model positive physical activities, and encourage long-term physical fitness.
Your donation of playground equipment will help me promote physical fitness and encourage a lifestyle of healthy movement.
It will also support my efforts to curve child obesity, juvenile diabetes, and asthma amongst low-income minority children. I want to prevent a sedentary lifestyle amongst my students while they are open to listen, eager to learn, and excited about team building and sports. I am confident that your donations will make this possible!
