My Students

As a teacher in a special education self-contained classroom in a low-income school district, my students are faced with challenges inside and outside of the classroom. Despite the many challenges that my students are facing, I am looking to provide them with a fun, interactive, and meaningful learning environment.

My students have a multitude of needs including physical, cognitive, medical, fine motor, sensory, and communication.

They love learning through a multitude of different means such as sensory activities. They learn best though creative and sensory activities.

My Project

The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything through our door! Literacy and reading is such a critical part of a child's education. The felt board will be used during circle time and literacy centers to allow the students to act out the stories that they have read during that unit. These will be placed near the chalk board so that they students can act out the stories and rhymes that they have learned. For example, the two storytelling sets both have most of the stories that we read during a variety of units.

These storytelling sets will help the words on the page come alive.

By having storytelling sets and nursery rhyme kits, the students will be able to learn about the different components of the stories and also work on their comprehension skills. I have used storytelling kits in the past with the students and it truly helps both their language and literacy skills.
