Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As bugget cuts get greater and greater, the first thing to go is materials for extracurricular subjects like art. It is difficult to imagine teaching first grade students without setting time aside for painting, stringing beads, and stamping.
I teach first grade students in a high ability/gifted magnet school.
The students grasp new concepts easily and quickly. This provides us with extra time in the school day to go deeper into other important areas of study, including art.
It is exciting to watch uninhibited students expressively creating artwork. Having access to a large array of art supplies will provide us with the novelty that will leave a lasting impression.
My Project
I am requesting a variety of materials in order to teach many fun and expressive art lessons for many years to come. The painting supplies I requested are brushes, paint containers, no spill water containers, a drying rack for our artwork as well as reusable display frames. I have also requested some letter and number stamps with oversize stamp pads for creating poster displays. In order to reinforce our math lessons in creating patterns I have also requested a variety of stringing beads as well as buttons.
This project is near and dear to my heart because I have seen the faces of students light up when we are able to create art.
We learn about many important artists and it is so great for the students to try to recreate famous artwork at times and create "new" styles of art at other times. These students will light up when they are able to use these materials to learn and have fun simultaneously.
