Get Comfy for Story Time in the Library!

My students need a new reading rug! The rug we have now has seen many students and heard many stories, but its time the students get a nice, clean rug to enjoy stories!

In our library the students are encouraged to read all different types of books to open different doors of magic.

I am the school librarian, which means I see all the students at our school within the week. My students range from Kindergarten to 5th grade with a large range in learning abilities and levels. Our school is in a small suburban community in Northern California just outside of San Francisco. There are over 800 students from many different cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds. Regardless of where they come from all students are encouraged to become responsible, respectful, safe, and kind individuals in the classroom and in the community.

My Project

The reading carpet in the library is used every day to tell stories or share books or for students just to relax and read. The reading rug is the center of our library and many wonderful books are enjoyed while the students sit on the rug. The rug we have now has been in the library for MANY years and although its been cleaned daily and yearly its time we get a new rug for the students to enjoy.

A new clean rug with bright colors will not only give the students a clean place to sit, but will also add some brightness to the library.

The reading rug is where the students come in and meet and start their library time. I read stories to them, they read stories to others and when they check out their books they lay on the rug and read. The rug we have now is beginning to unravel and has stains from years of story time. The students are ready for a fresh new story area!
