Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach K-8 students in an inner-city, high-need community. 99% of my students are on free or reduced lunch. Most students do not come to school with supplies. We have four grade levels that are divided into one gender classes. The boys need a more active approach to schoolwork.
My students are not allowed to have recess because there are not enough minutes for the core subjects, so I try to get them outside whenever possible during library. My school is focused on writing, so I try to center my lessons on writing. Especially with the male gender classes, the boys will benefit from a more active lesson outside.
I would like to use the clipboards to have the students go outside and write poetry or a creative story while inspired by nature or the sounds of the city.
You will make it possible for my students to spend more time outside while doing writing projects.
