My Students

Every year presents its own sets of challenges and obstacles. Being at a school where many students come from low-income, working families, it is my goal each year to make sure all of my students feel loved and welcomed in my room and provide support for them. Each year, the students become "my kids" (that is how they are referred to when I talk about them to my friends and family), and we quickly build a strong, tight-knit family. I spend a lot of my time getting to know students from other classrooms as well so that they know they are loved and can feel safe and protected.

I can't control what my students go home to but I can and do control the time that they are with me each day.

As a school, we are providing them with rigorous instruction to ensure they are college and career ready.

My students all try their best and want to do well in school and have high aspirations to achieve greatness. They are all unique and special in their own way. I look forward each day to spending the day with them and embarking on their educational journeys.

My Project

Physical Education is an integral part of a child's health. It is important for students to learn the importance of working out and playing collaboratively while having fun. I will help my second graders transition back into the classroom graders and teach them rules about games and sports activities.

My students are always encouraging me to join and play with them during PE so this project will help them learn team work and how to work collaboratively to play a game and sport during PE time.

The students love to play around outside and learn new activities. The sports equipment will allow them to learn new activities and games while learning skills essential to their health and well-being both socially and emotionally. The balls will be used to teach games: dodgeball, kickball, four square, etc as well as using them to practice their ball handling skills. The pump will help ensure our balls stay inflated and able to use daily. The jump ropes will be used to teach them how to jump rope and encourage competition among peers.

The hula hoops will be used to practice their coordination skills and play games with one another. I will use them to teach different games and I will be able to use them as a real life venn-diagram to compare two things. I am excited to use the hula hoops as a life-size game board.

Once my kids have learned how to properly use the equipment, I will be able to run PE rotations using the wireless speaker for music for the centers. This will help their confidence and help them learn team work. The wireless speaker will be an integral part in signaling the beginning and end of a rotation and to switch from one activity to the next.
