Help me give my students read aloud books and agar petri dishes so they can learn all about where germs live, and become more aware of the importance of good hand washing.
I am an elementary school, lower grade science teacher for K- 2nd grade. My students are very special people, who come to school with smiling faces ready to learn. They get so excited every week about coming to science class. My students come from many different backgrounds. Most families are from low-income households. The school is a Title I school which qualifies all of them for free breakfast and lunch. Most of them are recent immigrants and are English language learners. I try to give them many hands-on, real-life experiences during science class. Many students have not been in the classroom since pre pandemic, so it will be an adjustment getting back into classroom routines.
My Project
The materials and books I am requesting for this project will allow students to learn and be aware of the germs that live all around us everywhere. We are always teaching students to wash their hands but they never have the opportunity to actually see the germs. This fun and engaging activity will help students learn why hand washing is so important when they see germs grow on all surfaces they come in contact with daily. Students will be very surprised at the results. I also requested read aloud books to help teach them about germs in an engaging way.
