My students need geometry manipulatives to help them learn the names and attributes of the shapes.

My Students
Can you believe that we teach geometry in kindergarten? Well, we do. They have to learn the names and attributes of circles, squares, triangles, and rectangles. In first grade add a trapezoid to that.
I teach 19 wonderful little people in a K-1 combo class.
Over 50% of my class receives free meals at school. They come from a very poor neighborhood near my school. My students are eager and hard working. They are making growth everyday, and I want that growth to continue, but we need more "shape stuff" for geometry to be fully explored and mastered.
My Project
My students love to build and work with blocks. This is a great way for me to integrate fun in to their learning. I want to teach geometry concepts through various building activities. If we had the star and waffle builders that I requested, they could practice making things with squares, rectangles, and rounded corner shapes. The Geometry sorting kit is a magnetic set that lets the kids sort real-world objects into their shape category. The widgets are really neat. They are 3-d shapes that you combine to create pictures that are on the picture cards I have requested.
This project is very important to me because I want to make school a fun and safe place for my students to learn.
If they are learning while they are playing with building materials, their concepts about shapes and their attributes will become so much stronger than by just working on workbook pages. Please help me make learning fun for my students.
