Geology Rocks! Testing Supplies for Eager Scientists
Help me give my students new rocks to test in our geology unit. Fourth graders LOVE to test rocks! We really need to replace our old supplies. Materials will benefit 100 students each year.
The 4th grade needs materials to support our rock and mineral testing. Our current supplies are insufficient for classes to conduct rock and mineral testing in pairs for optimal engagement. We need black streak plates to complement the white plates we already have. This experience is always one students remember as "one of the best things we did in fourth grade."
We would like to start fresh with new materials so that each classroom has the necessary supplies and mineral samples to effectively provide students with rock testing experiences.
I am requesting these supplies to benefit the 100 students I plan science for each year. All materials will be reused for years to come. I want to make it easy and enjoyable for the teachers in my grade level to facilitate rock and mineral testing for all students. The supplies we have require students to work in groups of 4-6, which is less than ideal.
My goal is to restock our supplies with organized kits in quantities suitable for science partners to share a kit. This way, all students will get invaluable hands-on testing experience as they explore the wonderful world of geology!
