Genetics Made Easy!

My students need 1 Complete Genetics in Action C Fern Kit and 2 replacement kits.

FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Mains's classroom raised $300

This project is fully funded

I have come to believe that all students want to learn, but it is up to the teacher to show them that they can learn. I teach 11th grade biology in a high-poverty community, and my students have shown me that they are committed to their education, but they become easily frustrated when they do not understand a concept.

Biology is a difficult subject in any school, and it is particularly important for my students because in the state of Maryland, all students need to pass a Biology test in order to graduate high school. To add to this stress, many of my students have had many difficulties in their educational past and tend to get frustrated with challenging new concepts. Genetics is typically a topic that many students struggle with, so I want to do everything I can to ensure my students' success with this unit. Success during the genetics unit will lead to future success on the state's biology test and place my students in a position to graduate.

Fortunately, when my students have performed hands-on experiments, their learning increases greatly. They reach a deep understanding of the concepts when they can actually see the science happening rather than hearing or reading about it. Therefore, I truly believe that the Genetics in Action kits will give my students a chance to see genetics happening in our classroom. They will be able to trace two generations of C-FERN organisms, predict the genotypes and phenotypes of the offspring, analyze results, and draw conclusions.

With the C-FERN kits, my students will not only be able to review the scientific method, but they will also have the opportunity to truly understand Mendelian genetics. With your help, I am confident my students will continue to enjoy biology and be set up for success at the end of the year.
