My Project
I teach high school Biology in a large urban school district with a diverse student population. My students have accepted the challenge of an Early College program, where they have the opportunity to earn college credits during their final 2 years of high school. My students are highly engaged and actively learning.
Genetics comes up daily in the current news, and my students have insightful questions.
We discuss the basics of genetics, ecology, and human impacts on the global environment. We watch the headlines and discuss both what new information means and how current breakthroughs may impact each of us.
These materials will allow us to examine the influence of genetics in a more hands-on way. We'll observe the interactions of genetic traits in a live organism.
