Help me give my students a Disorder Detectives Classroom Kit to learn about chromosomes and karyotyping and a Decal Refill Set to use with more students.
I try to not only teach my students life science curriculum and the scientific process but I also want to teach them about potential careers they may choose to pursue in their futures.
This activity will allow my students to step into the role of a cytogeneticist to apply what they've learned during our genetics unit to simulate and solve a real life medical case.
They will review a patient’s history and assemble that patient’s genetic karyotype. Once assembled, they will analyze the karyotype for numerical or structural anomalies that can be linked to human genetic disorders. With the refill kit, I will be able to give each student group a unique patient with their own mystery to solve. I enjoy making activities engaging for my students and I appreciate your support in helping this activity come to life in our biology classroom.
