This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are an amazing enlightenment of what possibilities can occur in education and beyond. These future leaders and scholars of tomorrow range from Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade, majority of them non-natives to the United States.
They are resilient to ethnic diversities, hardships and high expectations; as a result the students have propelled the school from a "FF" to a "B" within four years.
Despite many of the tribulations they have faced, my students have proven time after time, "Hard work renders success!"
My Project
The use of individualized computer-based learning is a detrimental element within the 90 minute learning block. Through computer-based learning within the differentiated instructional block, students receive one-on-one instruction catered to their cognitive abilities. All students are provided 20 minutes of small group instruction on the computer. Research has proven that groups limited to six (6) students are more effective, when building student deficiencies and targeting students’ unique learning styles and academic needs.
Through the usage of iPad's and educational mobile apps used to boost achievement, differentiated instruction with a technology component just made teaching easier.
The iPad's allow students to engaged in personalized instruction. For example, teachers would put 2–3 students on the iPad, have them take a diagnostic, and then spend 15–20 minutes working with another group of students individually in small groups. Then students would go back to i-Ready to continue instruction and practice on what they learned. Each week students spent approximately an hour using the iPad's during the instructional block.
