Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students are fascinated by the jewelry worn by their favorite musicians and celebrities. Yet there is a disconnect between the bling students love to see, and an understanding of the actual science behind gems and minerals.

This tumbler will allow students to polish and fashion the rocks they find in local parks into beautiful wearable pieces of jewelry, which I will use as my hook to spark students’ interest, especially young women who tend to be underrepresented in STEM fields in learning more about the science behind mineral formation and properties.
