This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Extracurricular activities are an integral part of the learning process for many students. Joining a team provides many students with purpose and motivation to excel inside the classroom and in their daily lives. I would like to continue to use team sports to motivate students and teach life lessons. My school is a Title I middle school in an urban school district.

Sports programs and extracurricular activities help my students make safe and productive use of their after-school time and motivates them to succeed inside of the classroom and beyond.

As part of our sports program, I require all of my student-athletes to maintain a 2.5 GPA. To help them reach this goal, I conference with all of my athletes on a weekly basis and get them into tutoring programs if they are struggling in particular subject areas. In addition to helping students succeed in the classroom, team sports also help teach students the value of teamwork, cooperation, and perseverance.

My Project

These resources will be used to enhance our Varsity and JV basketball teams. The requested materials will allow students to participate in physical activity and promote sportsmanship and good decision making. These bags will be used by 15 students on our competitive varsity basketball team to store and transport gear, jerseys, shoes, and other equipment to and from home.

Additionally, I am hoping to promote unity and teamwork by having these matching equipment bags for the varsity team. I believe that their connection on and off the court with their teammates is of paramount importance and I am hoping that you will help me make this the most successful year of Panther Basketball yet.
