Hello, I teach a pre-kindergarten Class of 19 students in Brooklyn, New York, where 98% of the children receive free lunch. COVID19 has severely impacted our school community because half of my students had to receive a loaner device from the Department of Education to engage in remote learning. The students are working hard to acclimate themselves to remote learning and with the help of their families, they are thriving.
I provide my students with daily instructions/activities through Google Classroom to maintain mastered skills, and continue to develop their language, social, and comprehension skills.
To keep some normalcy for them, I keep in touch by participating in Google Meets meetings to allow the children opportunity to socialize with their peers, express their thoughts and feelings virtually. The Summer Bridge activity books will help the children retain what they have learned throughout the year and ensure a successful kindergarten learning experience in the fall.
My Project
It’s no secret that learning happens inside of the classroom but the learning that happens outside of the classroom is equally as important. As we adjust to our temporary normals, due to the global pandemic, I believe it is important to supply my students with learning materials that can keep them stimulated and help the prepare for their future successes. The Summer Bridge Activities book—which includes 12 weeks of skill-building and fitness activities, home science experiments, flash cards, and more—will allow my students to to work from home during the summer months, after remote learning ends in June.
With the help of the Summer Bridge Activities workbook, we can help close the learning gap that takes place over the summer and keep my students on track to success.
This workbook will allow parents to support their children’s learning as they anticipate the upcoming school year. Hands-on tools, such as this workbook, are shipped directly to the students’ homes to help conveniently cultivate a learning environment all summer long.
