Gearing Up for 4th Grade

Help me give my students air purifiers, basic supplies, and books for resources to support my students for success during in-person learning!

My Students

Our school is located in a residential neighborhood on Oahu. Hawaii is filled with so many diverse cultures and we see that in our classrooms. Many of our students come to us with different backgrounds, experiences, and cultures. While we all may be different, our school has a love for learning and teaching!

Amazing, bright, and enthusiastic learners!

That is how I would describe the eighteen wonderful 4th graders I have in my classroom. Every single one of them has different talents and favorites, but there are many things they all have in common.

My Project

First, help me give my students an air purifier to keep our classrooms clean during these unprecedented times. As we return to in-person learning, my students’ safety is my number one priority, especially with the COVID-19 cases we are experiencing in Hawaii. I am hoping to help ease students' and parents' fears, as well as my own, about returning to school. This air purifier would help circulate clean air and eliminate particles left in the classroom air. I want my students to feel safe and comfortable while learning during these unprecedented times and I know this air purifier can help.

Second, because of COVID-19, families might struggle to figure out how they will be able to send their children to school with the needed materials.

When these materials do not come with students to the classrooms, many teachers end up paying out of their own pockets to ensure their students are afforded the same opportunities as their peers. Things like crayons, notebooks, folders, markers, glue, and pencils are all necessary to make learning engaging, effective and fun.

Lastly, help me give my students the excitement and love for reading! I would like to provide my students with a wide range of books that will help them find excitement in reading. I would like to have books that show diversity in my library to learn more about the differences we may have in our lives. Books bring us together as a community and I hope the students will be able to learn and grow to develop compassion and empathy.
