This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I love listening to audiobooks. I share my enthusiasm with my students. Whenever possible I us books on CDs to engage my students. I like that they can pick up a book, find a cozy place and enjoy a book being read to them. These have proven successful in providing access literature and enjoy book.

I teach in a K-6 Elementary school.

Most of our students are English Language Learners from a low-income, high-poverty high transient community. The entire school is on a free and reduced lunch program. My students come to school knowing very little English, and many of their parents only speak their native language. I work to bridge the gaps.

My Project

We books on CD to read and listen in the classroom and at home. Listening to CDs will help my students listen to good English models. These books on CD will help my students by increasing their exposure to English texts and encouraging fluency and comprehension in English. They will serve as tools for boosting their readings skills. These books on CDs will be used for leisurely reading as well as focus structured reading in the class.

Most of my students are struggling to learn English as a second language.

They do not have sufficient support at home to help them develop their English. Having books on CDs will help me introduce students to books above their reading level, model good interpretive reading, teach critical listening, highlight the humor in books, introduce new genres that students might not otherwise consider, introduce new vocabulary or difficult proper names or locales, and provide a read-aloud model.
