My Students
The school where I work is an urban school with a high poverty rate. Students are often eager to learn, but come to school lacking basic social, emotional, and academic skills. One of the biggest challenges as an educator is meeting students where they are, and making the most of our time together to make the greatest gains. Parents are often willing to help, and technology is a fun and engaging way to reach parents and students.
My students love to work in groups and often use the carpet as a place to work throughout the school day.
We love to begin and end our day with a meeting where we can begin our day focused on our learning and end our day celebrating what we have learned with classmates.
My Project
My students need a comfortable place to sit during morning meeting, whole group time, and work throughout the school day. Each day we start with a morning meeting and message on the carpet. Students are excited to gather at the carpet and begin our day with our time together.
We have nearly all our math and reading instruction on the carpet daily.
Students often work on the floor during reading and math centers. children seem to naturally gravitate to working on the floor and enjoy having flexible seating options during the school day. I would love to make the time they spend working on the carpet more comfortable for them!
