My students need a dry-erase kidney table in our classroom so that they can have a special space to receive individualized instruction to meet their learning needs.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Working in a school with over 900 students, I am blessed to be able to welcome 40 kindergarteners into my classroom each day. My school is made up of more than 70% of English Language Learners and our diverse students speak Spanish, Arabic, Swahili, and over 15 other languages. They come to us from around the globe, ready to learn and to share their cultures and experiences.
My students, in particular, are a part of a newly implemented dual language program, where their instruction is 50% in English and 50% in Spanish every day.
We learn through thematic units and my students are challenged to read, write, and think critically each and every day. They are scientists, mathematicians, readers, writers, thinkers, and DREAMERS!
My Project
Organizing and furnishing a classroom is one of the most exciting tasks of going back to school for teachers. However, the importance of each individual piece of furniture is often overlooked. Of course, every student will have a seat to sit in and every teacher will have a desk. But, spaces for small group and individualized instruction is essential for student growth and success!
Students need a place in the classroom where they can work closely with the teacher.
I would like to purchase a dry-erase kidney table for my classroom so that I have a special place in the classroom to work closely with small groups of students to target their specific learning needs in reading and math. The dry-erase table will give students an opportunity to practice writing names, sight words, and letters while I take the time to confer with each one individually. Students will be able to maximize their small group time by practicing phonic skills. Also, the dry-erase aspect can be used to practice writing numbers and developing number sense in mathematics.
