My Students
The students in my class are 3rd-5th grade Gifted and Talented students. During the year COVID-19 distance learning these gifted students with IQs of 130 or greater were not given the opportunities to be challenged or provided the enrichment they would have gotten had we been in school. Many were not able to attend our live class sessions because of circumstances at home and most were not thriving during virtual school.
These unique students have also missed out on the connections and relationships built with other gifted students due to the impact of COVID-19.
These students are very bright, creative, and innovative. They have the ability to do great things with their lives if they are given the right support, encouragement, and tools.
The GATE teachers are given a very small budget that is to be used first and foremost to buy our testing supplies. After testing supplies are purchased, we have very little to buy the resources needed to provide rigorous curriculum. Gifted students have a variety of interests, talents, and abilities, and we just don't have the funding to give the students the opportunities and experiences they need to enhance their studies.
My Project
If my project is fully funded, students will be given a hands-on opportunity to observe and learn about the brain. Students in my class learn about the human brain for 3 years. This is their favorite culminating activity and experience!
Unfortunately, our program doesn't have the funds to purchase the sheep brains this school year.
Students were really looking forward to this learning experience. They have already missed out on so much. CCC-4 Systems and System Models, SEP-8 Obtaining, Evaluating, and Communicating Information, SEP-3 Planning and Carrying Out Investigations.
