Gardening Supplies For Greener Thumbs and Budding Minds

My Students

I teach a wonderful, enthusiastic group of 1st grade students in the San Leandro area. My students represent a community rich with culture, language, and diversity- one that openly embraces the quest for knowledge and growth.

These first graders deserve the best school experience possible - one that nurtures their academic, emotional, and social development.

As a relatively new teacher who is looking for new ways to stimulate the minds of my students, I need your help to provide the educational tools my students need!

My Project

In my first grade class, one of my main goals is to create hands-on experiences for learning that create fun, engagement, and lasting knowledge. We are fortunate enough to have three raised garden beds that our students are able to use in our school garden. Unfortunately, a successful gardening endeavor takes a sizable amount of money and a variety of different materials. That's where you come in!

My students have a number of important roles that they will fulfill each week as they learn in the garden: wildlife tracker, weed remover, waterer, tool manager, weather whiz, and growth tracker.

By involving each student in a role that fits their personal interests, students are personally invested and get the most out of their garden experience! Your donation will go towards ensuring that each student will be able to carry out their job successfully.

Magnifying glasses and bug viewers for the wildlife trackers, watering cans and a hose for the waterers, hand tools and knee pads for the weed removers, and measuring tapes for the growth trackers. Clipboards will ensure that students can write down their observations and measurements as they work outside. Durable, weatherproof storage will help to keep all of our materials organized and long-lasting.

When you contribute to this project, you will put much-needed materials into the eager hands of my first graders. The kids will love being able to use their own tools to dig, grow, and care for flowers, herbs, and vegetables on their own. Better yet, they will learn important concepts and skills centered around environmentalism, naturalism, healthy living, team work, and responsibility!
