This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The teachers at my school and I are starting a school garden. In the garden, we have a gazebo that serves as an outside classroom. We have also started a butterfly garden. The seeds, tools and compost bins in this grant will help us start a vegetable garden with the students.

Our school is a very nurturing environment.

We all feel like all the kids are ours from kindergarten through 5th grade. We support and care for each other and the students. The students are great kids who know they are safe and loved in the school. Our saying is, "In it together" and that is truly how we feel.

My Project

The resources that I am requesting will help us start a vegetable garden at school. We want to garden with the students to show them a respect and love for nature, an awareness of where their food comes from and a desire to eat vegetables because they had a part in growing them.

My project is important for various reasons.

First, it will encourage students to eat the vegetable because they will have a hand in taking care and growing them. Second, working in the garden will instill in our students a respect for nature. Lastly, they will see the importance of taking care of our Earth in order to ensure availability of the resources humans need.
