Gardening for Special Education and the Environment

Help me give my students the opportunity to build social skills, emotional growth, and environmental awareness through hands-on gardening in our very own classroom garden.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Blair's classroom raised $554

My Project

Our special education classroom is ready to grow—literally! We are excited to create a small outdoor garden space where our students can learn, connect, and thrive. To make this possible, we are requesting two raised garden beds, water hoses, and hose accessories.

These supplies will allow our students to become gardeners, planting vegetables, herbs, and flowers while learning valuable life, social, and environmental lessons.

Gardening offers powerful benefits for students with special needs. It supports social and emotional growth by encouraging teamwork, communication, and responsibility. Students will work together to care for our plants, helping them build relationships and practice skills like turn-taking, following directions, and problem-solving. The sensory experience of gardening—feeling the soil, smelling the herbs, watching plants grow—can be calming and therapeutic for many of our learners.

Gardening also connects students to nature and teaches them how to care for the environment. As they plant and water, they’ll learn how gardens reduce pollution, support pollinators, and improve air quality. By composting and caring for our earth, our students will become young environmental stewards who understand that their actions make a difference.

This project will not only grow plants—it will grow confidence, connection, and a lifelong appreciation for the natural world. Thank you for helping our students bloom!
