Gardening 101 for Brookside Beauties!

My students need various different gardening materials including sunflower, tomato, squash, and marigold seeds, a rake, and 5 shovels.

This project is fully funded

I am a third grade elementary school teacher and we are starting an outdoor garden. I teach in an inclusion classroom so this outdoor garden will provide all of my students with a hands on approach to our living things unit in science. It will be a wonderful learning experience for all of my students, one that everyone can enjoy and benefit from. We will also be integrating the garden into all areas of our curriculum. For example, we will be keeping garden jounals to draw and record our observations (language arts) and we will be measuring the plants and problem solving using the garden as well (math).

Our students have shown a geuine interest in gardening and we would like to embrace it! Some of our parents have even expressed an interest in helping with our garden. Our obstacle is that we do not have all of the supplies that we need to start the garden.

We have a local farm that is willing to help us dig up the land and prepare it, now all we need are some supplies. If we had the shovels, rakes, and the seeds the children would actually get to dig and plant on their own. What a wonderful experience it would be for them to actually plant something and watch it grow! This is a fantastic, hands on learning experience! We can move away from learning from the textbook and have a true hands on learning experience. We even have special teachers that are willing to incorporate this project into their curriculum. All we need now is your help!

You will make it possible for us to start this garden and not only will it spark their interest in science, but it will truly be an engaging project that they will remember forever. This type of learning is truly beneficial to the students, and the project can be applied to all areas of the curriculum. This is really a win win learning experience for all! So we hope that you will consider helping us fund this project.
