Our green thumbs know that there's work to be done, but our materials and resources are lacking! We want to create a classroom garden and share what we learn and grow with members of our community and families.
My second grade students are fantastic!
They attend an awesome charter school in Missouri. They are very diverse and have a strong love for learning. They readily demonstrate respect, responsibility, and caring. They also ooze creativity. My kiddos are dreamers. My kiddos are winners! My kiddos are the change that we want to see in this world!
My Project
My students need literature such as 101 Kid-Friendly Plants: Fun Plants and Family Garden Projects, Green Thumbs: A Kid's Activity Guide to Indoor and Outdoor Gardening, and Ready, Set, Grow! A Kid's Guide to Gardening, as well as seeds, pots, soil, grout, mosaic tiles and a mosaic tool kit, and books in order to learn how to be gardeners and give back to the community.
These gardening supplies will help foster an appreciation for the land we use, the food we grow, and our environment. My students will also learn to be more responsible and the importance of sustainability.
I want our class to be an environmental role model for others and to inspire them to do their part in taking care of the Earth. The materials that I have requested will help us on this mission.
Children are more apt to want to care for something they have a personal stake in. That's why it is so important to expose students to the natural world and teach them ways to use it, protect it, and sustain it. Children can learn about gardening, sharing, and sustaining in age-appropriate ways.
Through the funding of this project, my students will be able to make a true and lasting connection with nature, thus becoming young gardeners who appropriately use the resources of the Earth.
This project will have a powerful influence in helping my students learn the importance of sustainability, giving back to those in the community, and help them to understand the direct impact they can have on the environment for our future.
