This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am so blessed to be able to teach students from kindergarten to 5th grade. The students in my classes are hard-working, energetic, and curious. They love learning and excel when I can make the classroom learning relevant to their life. My school is a Title I school. This means most of my students are economically disadvantaged and receive free or reduced lunch.
The students I teach thrive off of real world experiences.
My goal is to bring as many of these experiences as I can into our classroom.
My Project
Students will be working with a Master Gardner to learn all about fruit and vegetable gardens. They will learn about the parts of a plant, what a plant needs to thrive, and how farms effect our community and economy. Students will also learn all about soil. They will learn how to test and amend the soil. They will compete in a stem soil challenge where they analyze the soil from our schools gardens and create a presentation to share their findings.
Students will also plant many different fruits and vegetables throughout the year.
They will weed, feed, and water these plants. When ready, students will harvest the plants. They will be responsible for finding new recipes to use the fruits and vegetables from our garden. As we create the recipes, we learn about A Healthy Plate.
Students will be exposed to many new fruits and vegetables. Our goals is to have students try as many new foods as we can. Let's change the stigma that veggies are gross.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
