My Project

Having something to touch and create, helps minds open to care and support and can be therapeutic to the soul. Being able to see something through from start to finish such as a growing garden and see something they made and created, flourish can be so rewarding to a student who wouldn't otherwise have this type of opportunity in their home environment. I would also love to have the chance to give these students access to fresh vegetables and herbs that otherwise isn't available to them.

The Garden of Growth has come from a need to support students with trauma and anxiety, outside of the classroom in an environment where they can do hands on activities and relate their own needs to the needs of a growing plant.

We will need gardening supplies in order to accomodate our students needs in helping create the Growth Garden such as: soil, tools, shovels, seeds, gloves, books relating gardening to helping youth with trauma and anxiety, a trellis, watering cans, journals to document feelings, thoughts, and successes.

My goal is to create an environment where students feel grounded and connected to something, and take them out of a vulnerable state and give them freedom to grow.

My students are so special because they sometimes aren't always given outlets like the growth garden but they very much deserve these opportunities to heal and gain coping mechanisms. We live in a rural community where these opportunities do not always come up and I want to help present an opening for these wonderful students.
