Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Growing a garden will be a wonderful experience for my Pre-K babies. This experience may be one that they may never experience again.

Our school is a Title 1 school located in Florida.

Currently we have 654 students at our school and 88% of our students are English Language Learners and over 80% of them are receiving free/reduced lunch. A garden may be their first focused and immersed encounter with the natural world.

My Project

The resources that I am asking for will allow my children to grow and maintain our first-ever garden! In doing this it will give them emotional benefits, teach them responsibility, nurture learning, and provide great nutritional health benefits. We are asking for the following items; Raised garden beds. We are starting with a big blank slate:). The raised beds that we are asking for are small enough so the children can grow and care for their very own vegetables. Compost bin- A compost bin will teach children to reduce the amount of waste each of us sends to the landfill. We will learn how, what and why food breaks down. Rain barrel- By collecting our own water we learn to conserve water and help our plant. Garden equipment- Gloves, garden tools and soil are all essential tools that we need to start and maintain their very own garden!

Growing a school garden will take learning beyond the walls of my classroom.

A garden will be an excellent tool for responsibility, family unity, nutritional education and have emotional benefits. A garden will teach my students patience, cooperation, teamwork and social skills. What better way to instill healthy eating than eat what you grow!
